Do buy an external hard drive with its own power supply. Some sources claim that the faster the drive the better the audio quality (purely subjective.) Copy, burn, and access speeds are considerably faster especially if using Firewire 800 or Thunderbolt as the interface. If you have a choice between a 5200 RPM hd or a 7200 RPM hd, then go with the faster drive. You can now purchase an external Thunderbolt SSD for under $500 or less.
